The mission of the PTA is three-fold: to support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community, and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children; to assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children; and, to encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation. The PTA Council in Norman is made up of 20 PTA units at all levels (elementary, middle, and high schools) and represents almost 4,000 members. Claudia Griffith PTA Scholarship Application In 2018, Norman PTA Council renamed its scholarship program to honor the late Claudia Griffith for her legacy of leadership and volunteerism in Norman’s PTAs. Before becoming a state representative and executive director of Health for Friends, a healthcare non-profit, Griffith served as PTA president at Jefferson Elementary, Longfellow Middle School and Norman North High School.
“Claudia was a tireless advocate for children and truly loved being a member of the PTA. Our schools are the hub of our community, and her legacy of service shows the incredible progress that can happen when we begin our focus on our most important resource, our children,” said Annette Price, Norman PTA Council president. “We are grateful to the Griffith family for continuing to be a part of PTA’s vision of advancing education opportunities for our young people.”
The Norman PTA Council’s scholarship fund is made possible through donations from area businesses and proceeds from the Norman Chocolate Festival.
Scholarship applications are due by May 1, 2019. Reflections Art Contest Congratulations to our Norman kids who placed at the state level! To see a list of winners, click here. |
