Purpose of the Norman PTA Council

Membership Growth and Development  NPTAC would like to see each individual school unit grow to its fullest potential.  To move towards this goal, various trainings, resources, and other tools will be provided through meetings and online forums.  NPTAC Executive Board members are available for individualized support.

  • Leadership development
  • Membership growth
  • Financial processes and deadlines
  • State and federal filings
  • National and state grants and programs

District Representation  As a combined unit, NPTAC can create a stronger community to engage students, parents, teachers, school leaders, and community partners at all levels.  Ability to participate in State and National events and programs is one of the benefits of district representation.  Such initiatives would be led by committees that would ensure appropriate training, resources, and support is available for all school units.

Future committees may include:

  • Reflections
  • Watch D.O.G.S.
  • Language Immersion
  • Science Fair
  • STEM

Community Engagement  NPTAC is grounded in a sincere desire to provide services, resources and manpower to better the lives of children in the community of Norman and at the individual unit  level.  This support extends to Dimensions Academy.  Each year, an area of need or service in the Norman community will be identified by the NPTAC general membership.  The NPTAC will also support individual school unit community service activities to the best of the Council's ability.  Various other councils and schools have conducted community engagement in the following areas:

  • Reading programs
  • School supply drive
  • Coat & backpack drive
  • Mentoring programs
  • Student leadership programs
  • Teacher scholarships
  • Submit your ideas today!

Advocacy  Norman PTAs combined as a single unit will have a stronger impact on legislation that affects our children and our district.  Advocating for change when needed is something the NPTAC will be more effective at when acting as a unified district voice.  Members can expect:

  • Policy Breakdown
  • Legislative Briefs and Updates
  • Calls to action regarding specific legislation
  • Norman Presence at PTA Day at the Capital
  • Two-Way Communication with Law Makers
  • Community Discussions

The Norman PTA Council is the coordinating body for all PTA units serving Norman Public Schools and serves as the link between each school's PTA and Oklahoma PTA.  Council responsibilities include providing mentoring and training for unit officers, supporting leadership and membership, and educating on advocacy issues and programs like Reflections and WatchDOGS among many others.

The Superintendent and the administration of Norman Public Schools support the Council and its role as a channel of communication between the district and all member PTAs in Norman.  The Council hosts an annual PTA & Principals luncheon, organizes community service projects, and provides scholarships to NPS students.
